Emergency Maintenance Checklist

Record what happened, when it started, which area is affected and whether it is getting worse. Explain any loss of access, security, water, power or essential equipment. Keep people away from danger and follow the site’s emergency arrangements.

Discuss your requirements

Maintenance is work organised over time.

Arrange an authorised response

Provide a callback number and a person who can give access and authorise work. Tell the contractor about known hazards and relevant site rules. Do not attempt unfamiliar repairs or isolations to prepare for attendance.

After the immediate attendance

Record what was made safe, which restrictions remain and what permanent work is recommended. Identify who authorises the next stage and how affected occupants will be told. An attendance can end with the risk controlled while a repair remains outstanding.

Questions to resolve

What if people are in immediate danger?

Contact the emergency services and follow the site’s emergency procedures. A property-maintenance enquiry is not a substitute for emergency rescue.

What should the completion note distinguish?

The findings, immediate action, present condition, remaining restrictions and further work required.
