IoT and Remote Monitoring

Difficult-to-observe conditions, intermittent faults or repeated manual readings can prompt a monitoring review. Identify the condition and the decision it should support. A remote reading does not remove the need for physical maintenance or establish that someone will attend after an alert.

Discuss your requirements

Defined services, clearly scoped.

Overview

Describe the outcome required as well as the immediate issue. The starting information should identify the location, people affected and any change in use, so the assessment addresses the current requirement rather than simply repeating the previous arrangement.

What the service can include

The brief defines sensors, locations, communications, readings, thresholds and notification routes. It identifies power, connectivity and maintenance requirements. Records should show data gaps and device health so loss of communication is not mistaken for normal operation.

Decisions that shape the service

Monitoring and automatic control have different risks. Define whether the system only observes or can change equipment. Security, access and recovery arrangements belong in the design, with the responsible IT and building teams involved before connecting devices.

The proposal identifies the responsibilities that remain with the site or property team and the work included in our instruction. Connected repairs and specialist activities receive their own clear scope, so each person understands what they must arrange and what records they will receive.

Assessment and preparation

Provide the assets, monitoring question, network constraints and existing systems. Identify who receives alerts and what action is expected. Agree working hours, escalation and the response to missing data or sensor failure.

How the service proceeds

We establish the purpose and site conditions, then define devices and data flows. Setup includes relevant checks of readings and notifications. Handover records thresholds, permissions, maintenance and response responsibilities.

For several sites, we agree consistent reporting and escalation while retaining local contacts and operating requirements. Each action stays connected to its building or service area, with a named route for decisions that affect the wider operation.

Cost, timing and disruption

Device numbers, access, communications, subscriptions and data handling affect cost. Battery replacement and calibration or checks may create ongoing work. Compare the complete monitoring arrangement, including the human response, rather than sensor price alone.

Tell us about operating hours, critical periods and the activities that must continue. The programme and price should reflect those constraints, including any phased delivery, additional access arrangements and reporting needed by the operational team.

Sector applications

Offices need work coordinated with staff and visitors. Retail needs trading and deliveries considered. Hospitality brings guest areas and food operations into the brief, while education needs access planned around teaching. Our complete service and project offering supports all sectors, with the arrangements based on each site's actual activity.

Local coverage

We cover Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Tees Valley, including Berwick-upon-Tweed, Alnwick, Morpeth, Hexham, Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham, Darlington, Hartlepool, Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough. View all locations.

For a multi-site requirement, provide the local contact and working restrictions for each address. A common service brief still needs the differences between premises recorded.

Frequently asked questions

Does monitoring include emergency attendance?

Only if a separate response arrangement is explicitly agreed. An alert is not a promise of attendance.

Can sensors replace inspections?

They provide selected observations. Required physical checks and maintenance remain separate.

What happens if connectivity fails?

The design should identify data gaps and the action required, rather than silently display old values as current.

Can alerts feed an existing helpdesk?

Assess the interface and define ownership, duplication handling and escalation before integration.
