Handover records completed activities, checks, limitations and the agreed conditions for returning the affected system to use.

The instruction identifies what is included, the evidence expected at completion and how additional findings are authorised. Records remain connected to the equipment and location so the next person maintaining the system can understand what was done.

System volume, complexity, number of outlets, access and the required treatment affect cost and duration. Preparatory cleaning, remedial pipework and laboratory work create separate tasks. The programme needs sufficient time for the specified checks rather than treating the last contractor visit as automatic clearance.
